Summer Classes End August 1
Summer classes are coming to a close! Here’s what you need to know:
- Final Date: Summer classes end on Friday, August 1.
- Final Push: Encourage your students to give one last summer push! There is still one week left, and that’s enough time to have a big impact on summer grades. Make sure it’s a positive impact!
- Extensions: You can arrange an extension for your students directly with their NCVPS teacher. The extension window closes on August 6.
- Final Grades: We will post final summer grades in the NCVPS registration system on August 11.

Standard Start: August 25

Funding
If your district or charter school exhausts its allotment, you can request use of NCVSP reserve funds. The request must come from the district office or the superintendent’s designee for the entire school system or from the charter school principal.
Registration Tips
Here are a few tips as you register:
- Use our new filters to ensure you’re enrolling in the correct semester. We have summer, fall, spring, yearlong, early standard, and standard start options.
- Be sure to add the IEP and 504 modifications as you enroll students with IEPs.
- Download an enrollment report when you’re done registering for the day. Check to see if your students are enrolled or waitlisted.
- Understand our waitlist. Our instructional directors use the waitlist to determine if they need to open a new section of the course or increase the capacity of an already opened section.
- We will likely have a few courses end up on our course capacity list. Popular demand and teacher limitations drive this list. Students waitlisted for those courses may have a difficult time getting a seat in the course.
Early Start vs. Standard Start: Choose Your End Date for Final Grades
NCVPS has two dates for reporting Fall 2025 final grades:
- Early Start classes: December 11, 2025
- Standard Start classes: January 15, 2026
For Spring 2026, we also have two dates for reporting final grades:
- Early Start Classes: May 14, 2026
- Standard Start Classes: May 21, 2026
Each semester, we offer two calendars: Early Start and Standard Start. Consider two points when choosing a calendar in which to enroll students.
First: When do you have access to your students? You need to ensure they can access their NCVPS courses.
Second: When do you need final grades?
Determine when you need final grades and register students for that calendar (Early Start or Standard Start). In the past, we’ve had several schools request early final grades late in the semester. We have moved away from that practice. Our concerns are always for student success and academic integrity. We prefer that students are not rushed through a course. They need time to complete all the modules and objectives in their courses. Please guard that teaching and learning time for your online students. Work with your data managers and curriculum directors to help ensure this best practice.

NCVPS offers both standard and honors-level courses in World Mythology.
World Mythology focuses on the exploration of themes, motifs, and archetypes across different mythological traditions, including Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Norse, and Native American mythology. Students will gain active reading, research, and presentation skills as they define and connect to myths, fables, and legends before analyzing universal themes like creation, life, death, love, and trickster myths. Throughout, the study emphasizes how mythology reflects cultural beliefs and explores universal human experiences through storytelling.

| As virtual learning has become a part of everyday learning for most families across North Carolina, many parents, guardians, and mentors continue to struggle with how to support their online learners in blended and online classes. To provide resources and strategies for how to support not only our NCVPS students, but all online learners in North Carolina, NCVPS has created two Supporting Online Students (SOS) video courses in Canvas. Both courses are free, open to the public, and do not require login credentials. Please share both links with your educational communities and parent networks. |

| The first course, Supporting Online Students – All NC, is general in nature and is designed for parents, guardians, and mentors of any student who is participating in a blended or online course or is enrolled in a fully online program regardless of school or grade level. |
